Mary Kay is a brand I’ve only really discovered this year. A little bit of research later, and I felt very silly for not knowing about them – they’re huge! Sold in more than 35 countries, the brand has been around for over 50 years and some how I had completely missed them. The lovely people at Mary Kay kindly sent me some of their products to try, so here are my honest, unfiltered thoughts on what’s worth giving a go.
Liquid Eyeliner Pen* (£11.00) – This is a standout product for me. I’m not the best with liquid liner but this is so easy to use, is jet black and you can get both a subtle and more dramatic line. This one doesn’t smudge or smear and actually lasts well throughout the day. I know it can be hard to get excited about liquid eyeliners but the Mary Kay liner pen does what it says on the tin without any fuss or frills. You can’t go wrong.
Foundation Primer SPF 15* (£16.00) – I’m super fussy with primers and unfortunately this wasn’t great on my skin. That said, if you have a normal or oily skin, this would be lovely on you. The formula is oil-free and does smooth out your skin texture but for me personally, my foundation didn’t sit well on top of it. I do love the combined SPF though and for a silicone based primer, it’s not greasy on the skin at all.
Gel Semi-Shine Lipsticks* (£14.00 each) – The Mary Kay shine lipsticks are beautiful. For how creamy and smooth they feel on the lips, the longevity is really amazing. The three shades I have are:
- Naturally Buff – A universal brown based nude with a hint of pink. It’s great for a subtle everyday lip but you need eye makeup and blush as this could wash out paler complexions.
- Rosewood – My fave shade of them all. It’s a buttery deep rose pink lipstick, perfect for all occasions, great for autumn and would look fab on anyone.
- Apple Berry – The epitome of a statement rich berry, autumnal lipstick shade. Everyone needs a lipstick like this in their collection.
Overall, I’ve been pretty impressed with Mary Kay and I’ll definitely be trying more from their collection. Their pricing puts them at the top end of the drugstore market but not quite up there with super luxurious brands – think The Body Shop, Pixi, Rosie for Autograph etc. Of the products I’ve tried, the primer is the anomaly, both in quality and price, but I highly recommend their lipsticks and the liquid liner. I have their hand cream too and that’s well worth a purchase as well.
Have you used any Mary Kay products? If not, let me know which brands you’ve discovered this year and are loving.
Sincerely, Sarah xx
Autumn is by far my favourite season. What’s not to love about cosy evenings, scarf season, hot chocolates and Christmas prep? I adore mixing up my makeup looks too, incorporating warm bronzy, copper tones that are perfect for autumn. Don’t even get me started on berry toned lips…

I figured it’s about time I introduce you to one of my secret beauty weapons… Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré.
I’ve been using this for over a year and I can honestly say my makeup has never looked or felt better. Lait-Crème Concentré is a rich, creamy moisturiser that sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave you feeling greasy. It leaves my skin super soft and plumped and quite simply, is the best makeup primer I’ve ever used.
The glow you get from this product is seriously unbeatable; it’s natural, fresh and just leaves you looking healthy. Applying makeup after this is a total joy too – foundation glides on, concealer doesn’t crease or go patchy and it does a fab job of keeping my makeup on for longer. One amazing thing about Lait-Crème Concentré is it’s perfect for all skin types so whether you’re dry, normal or combination, you can all benefit from it’s awesomeness.
Ingredients wise, Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré is a little divisive. If you run in the other direction of products containing mineral oil, then I’m sorry to say this isn’t the miracle product for you. If you’re not bothered by it (I’m not), prepare to fall in love with a new skincare product!
It comes in a 30ml or a 75ml tube, is reasonably priced and the packaging is practical, hygienic and hardwearing. You can pick Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré up from here, as well as most main drugstores, French pharmacies and beauty sites.
Let me know if you’re a lover of this too, and if you’ve tried any other Embryolisse products I’d love to know your thoughts.
Sincerely, Sarah xx
